Samuel O’Reilly first expanded on the concept of the electric pen created by Edison, and created the first electromotor tattooing-machine. In 1891 O’Reilly took the idea of the pen that functioned on the basic design of moving coils, a tube and a needle bar. this basic design has been only slightly upgraded and modified from artist to artist need and desire but the original concept and basic design have been kept.
