Meanings - Cross

CROSS - the cross is a tattoo that has been in question for at least the last two centuries, and was tattooed by sailors, merchant, was strongly represented in Old School style of tattooing and was a popular tattoo among Military Recruits in America, and is now one of the most popular tattoo designs in the world.

The Cross is one of the oldest symbols, widespread and important in human history, the vertical and horizontal lines representing "Father and Mother" and Nature, respectively. The point of intersection of two lines - the point of synthesis - represented these mystical and spiritual concepts that embraced the meeting of material and spiritual human existence.

Long before it was taken and adopted as the most powerful Christian symbols, the cross has become one of the most widely grown of the sacred symbols. It symbolized life and immortality, fertility, the marriage of heaven and earth, the sun and stars. His four hands, or arms, symbolized the North, South, East and West, or the four winds, the elements, not to mention the human form itself. Around the world, was used decorative as well as a symbol of protection.
